Week 2 College Football Best Bets

Updated: Oct 13, 2022

Texas A&M vs Appalachian State over 53.5

My favorite bet last week was the App State vs UNC over in which both teams cashed the over by themselves in a 63=61 thriller. I like this bet to cash easily, but not that easy. We have seen that this Mountaineer defense can get gashed by a good offense as UNC was able to put up 567 yards along with their 63 points. App State now has to go on the road to Texas A&M who is looking to put up some points after their 31-0 win over Sam Houston State. Appalachian State can score as well but don’t count on them to pass the half-century mark again. I think Texas A&M will score in the 30’s again which only requires App State to put up around 20 points of their own in a game that will be closer than people think. Slam the over here.

Duke vs Northwestern under 58.5

The Cold Take Sports crew were all on the Duke/Temple under last week and it comfortably hit. Although we thought it would be a low scoring affair from both sides, Duke put up 30 and held Temple to nothing. Now Northwestern comes to town and they are a hell of a lot better than Temple. I like the Wildcats defense to hold a Duke offense that I still don’t think is good, to less than 20 points. Northwestern has probably come down from their high of beating Nebraska in Ireland but I think that win did give them a boost of confidence as they head into their matchup in Durham. Give me the Wildcats 27-17 and an under winner.

Michigan State -34.5 vs Akron

Michigan State had their bettors worried for most of the game last week as they waited until the fourth quarter to finally cover the spread at home against Western Michigan. I don’t suspect we will have to wait as long this week. As has been the case the last few seasons, Akron is horrible. The Zips needed overtime to overcome the mighty Red Flash of Saint Francis (PA) in week 1. I think the Spartans will be looking for a more dominant win against this MAC school and hopefully give their starter Payton Thorne some time off in the fourth quarter. If Akron doesn’t show some fight out of the gate, this could be a five score game at halftime. Spartans win 52-13 in East Lansing.

Roger Murdock

Tennessee/Pittsburgh over 67

Two good quarterbacks and offenses on a game that I think should be close. I think this is a game where neither team can stop the other and they are just trading touchdowns in the 4th quarter. 67 isn’t enough

Duke/Northwestern under 56

Not much to say other than these are two academic schools playing a football game. Mike Elko seems to have the Duke defense as one of the most improved units in the country. Northwestern defense is always a strength and Duke can’t score.

ECU -12.5 vs Old Dominion

Both teams are coming off their Super Bowls with very different feelings. ODU won while ECU lost a heartbreaker. But NC State is world’s better than VT, and ECU has an opportunity to get the season going in the right direction with a big win.

Peter Cornell

Duke @ Northwestern Under 56.5

This handicap is simple. Duke won 30-0 week one against what is going to be one of the worst teams in the country. Northwestern is coming off of a high beating northwestern in Dublin and a bye week. I think Elko looks to play slow and control the football against NW. I on no planet see this game being anymore than a 31-21 or 28-17 ball game and that gets us there. Take the under.

UTSA @ Army

Army +3

Both teams coming into this game after dropping their opening games last week. UTSA lost at home in a barn burner to a solid Houston team in 3OT and Army lost on the road to another very solid team in Coastal Carolina. I look past the Coastal loss for Army because Coastal had the entire off season to prepare for the option. UTSA has 1 week to prepare for the option, has to travel up to West Point, and has play this game which is sandwiched between that barn burner loss to Houston and a game at Texas. Good Luck with that. Give me Army and sprinkle some on the money line.

Marshall @ Notre Dame

Notre Dame -20.5

Im going to keep this handicap short and sweet. ND played a hard-fought game and lost at Ohio State in what some say is a moral victory. I will promise you that nobody associated with the ND football team has that same feeling. This is a smash spot for ND and not a great time for Marshall to be in the way. Marshall will be playing a 2nd game without stud running back Rasheen Ali. All signs point me towards ND to win this around 38-10 or 44-14. Give me ND laying the points.
